It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Jane Snyder announces her passing after a brief illness, on February 17, 2021, at the age of 83.  Mary was preceded by her late husband William and will be lovingly remembered by her children Tina (Robert) Rosato , Raymond McDonald, Colleen (Jeff) Taylor , Brian (Thuy) McDonald  and Renae (Mark) Unger .  Mary will also be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Jessica, Kari, Shannon, Sabrina, Darby, Isaac, Teah and Austin, by her three great-grandchildren, Hanna, Matthew and London, by her great-great-granddaughter Lauranna, by her brother, Robert Kolakowski, and by her sisters, Shirley Kujawski, Ruth Bierre and Gloria Majewski.  Mary was preceded by her brother William Kolakowski.

Laurie A. Slifko (nee Harpster) age 51, of Mentor. Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long illness. Cherished daughter of Larry and Faye Harpster. Loving wife of Joe. Devoted mother of Shelby and Robert (Kayla) Gill. Granddaughter of Verna Spreng. Sister of Lt. Larry “Tiger” (Tami) Harpster. Aunt of Brittani, Courtani, Stephani Harpster, Kristine and Katie Gill. Loving cousin and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Sid and Louise Stacy, and Lawrence A. Harpster Sr., William (Bud) Spreng. K9 Fur Kids of Diesel, Mo, and Stevie. The family will receive friends Saturday February 27th 2021 from 3:00P.M.-4:30 P.M. prior to A Celebration of Life Service at Painesville Assembly of God, 10949 Johnnycake Ridge Rd., Painesville, Ohio. Eva McBride age 92, of Painesville Township passed away on February 14, 2021 at her home. She was born June 18, 1928 in Frostburg, Maryland, and lived in Painesville Township since 1949. Eva was employed at IRC Fibers in Painesville Township, and Wiseco Pistons in Mentor. She was a member of the church of the Brethren in Painesville Township. Survivors are her daughter Lora (Doug Miller). They have been living with her and taking care of her. She is also survived by her sons Robert (Bonnie) McBride of mentor, and William C. (Lana) McBride of Painesville Township. Grandmother of Melissa Love, Bob McBride Jr., Deena Whited, Kim Fowler, and 6 Great-grandchildren, and one Great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband William J. McBride, her parents Oren and Nellie Crosby, and her brother Eddie and three nephews. Per Eva’s request no services will be held.

Mother of Stephen James McConville who preceded her in death. She graduated from Cuyahoga Community College with an Associate in Graphics Design and was a prolific artist. She loved cooking and her dogs.

Bill Petruschke peacefully passed from this life on February 9, 2021 due to complications from Parkinson's Disease and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He was 78 years old. Married for over 50 years, he leaves behind his spouse, Candy, his two daughters Alysha (Glenn) and DeAnn (Jared) and four grandchildren.

Bill was a Tool and Die Maker by trade and owner of Endura Plastics in Kirtland, Ohio. After selling his company he founded Wedgewood products and became the world’s largest producer of aquarium hydrometers. Bill lived a full and rich life and loved to make others laugh. He will be remembered as a loving husband, attentive father, doting grandfather and friend to all.

Mary M. (Peggy) Harrington (nee Williams), 73, of Wickliffe, Ohio, passed away February 6, 2021 in Mentor, Ohio.

Peggy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Earle W. Williams and Margaret J. Williams (nee Burke) on February 16, 1947.   She attended Wickliffe Senior High School graduating in 1965. She worked as a clerk and office manager for Cuyahoga County Probation Department for 36 years before retiring. She also worked part-time as a home health aide as well as at Nautica Stage on occasion.  She liked collies but loved her cats.  She collected several different things over the years and liked candles, artwork and in general nice things.  She loved to travel and wanted to visit as many places around the world as she could.  She especially loved ocean cruises and sailed well over 100 times.  Peggy loved to meet new people and make new friends and cruising afforded her that pleasure.  She was kind, generous and really liked to help people. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Earle and Margaret Williams and her sister Madonna Nicholls (nee Williams)  

Peggy is survived by her longtime companion Michael Jablonski of Mentor on the Lake, her niece Debora A. DiLillo Nicholls of North Olmsted, nephew R. Scott E. Nicholls (Lisa), and great nephew and nieces Peyton, Olivia and Ella Nicholls of North Ridgeville.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law Raymond Nicholls of North Olmsted. 

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 19, 2021 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 29850 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe with Father Joseph O’Donnell officiating.   Arrangements handled by Blessings Cremation Center, 9340 Pinecone Dr., Mentor, Ohio

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association Cleveland Chapter, National Multiple Sclerosis Society Ohio Buckeye Chapter, The Hospice of the Western Reserve, or the charity of your choice.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions and risks the family plans to hold a Celebration of Life gathering at a time, date, and place to be determined based on existing circumstances.  Those wishing to attend are asked to email Michael Jablonski at travel_guy@sbcglobal.net.  You will be added to the contact list once we are able to hold the celebration safely.

Molly Pan

 

Molly Pan, 82, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 31, 2021, at Heartland of Mentor, Ohio with her family member by her side.  She was born on August 12, 1938 in Rangoon, Burma.  Her proudest moment was becoming a naturalized United States citizen with her family.

 

Molly was a seamstress & homemaker living in Cleveland, Ohio.  She loved cooking, baking, making clothes, traveling, playing Mahjong, watching TV, attending church and spending time with friends and family.  She has passed down many traditional Burmese recipes to her children.  Her smile wasinfectious and brightens any room when she was there.  Molly will be truly missed.  Live like Molly;  Smile.  Laugh.  Be happy and joyous.

 

Molly is survived by her husband, Ying Yu Pan, 91.  They were married for more than 60 years.  Survived by her four children:  Jackson Pan & Nelson Pan, of California;  Mary Pan, of Wickliffe; and Wilson Pan, of Cleveland.  She is also survived by her two grandchildren and three cats.

 

A private memorial & celebration of Molly’s life will be planned for a later date.  In lieu of flowers, Molly’s family suggests that memorial donations be made in her name to your favorite local food bank.

“Jimmy the Brick” world’s best brick layer and stone mason for over 63 years. He began his career with Fragassi & Son Mason Contractors. James was born in Chicago, Illinois to his parents the late Fred and Mary Alice (nee Hall) Salzbrunn; beloved husband of Jeri (nee Fragassi) for 52 years; father extraordinaire of Michael James, Susan Marie and Patricia Ann; extremely proud grandfather of Hannah Leigh, Sarah (deceased), Kurt James, and James Michael; great-grandfather of Luke and Hailey Hope; brother of William, Renee, Ellen Shelfo, and the following deceased:  Richard, Rose Mary Hass, and Ben. Our father “Bricks” gave every part of his heart and hard work to everyone, he gave everything!! Mike, Sue and Patricia are blessed by the legacy of their parents. Jim and Jeri were a strong couple with love and passion. Jim loved his family and his many friends.  A special thanks to all of you. He loved being “Boss”, Nascar, casinos, and watching the horses run. 

In the spring of 2021, as he requested for a celebration of his awesome 84 years of life, his cremains will be buried next to his wife at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois. “God loves you dad”

Hildegard (Otto) Hantzmann, age 91, of Willowick, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Hildegard was born on September 21, 1929 in Lerbach, Germany. She was the youngest of five children of the late Hubert and Anna (nee Koch) Otto.

Hildegard cared for her friends and family throughout her life in a special, motherly way. She was devoted to her children, husband and those close to her and will forever be remembered for being a hardworking, independent, loving and caring grandmother. Hildegard beamed with pride for her grandchildren often sharing their noted accomplishments with anyone she talked with and could always be found on the sidelines cheering them on. She was also thankful to enjoy quality time with her great-grandchildren who absolutely adored her.

Hildegard is survived by her brother, Helmuth Otto; sister, Elfriede Seibt; daughters, Iris (Dennis) Giannini, Kim (Michael) Marhefka; five grandchildren, Tara Giannini, Ryan (Stephanie) Giannini, Adam Giannini, Adrian (AJ) Piazza, and Logan (Antonella) Marhefka; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Callie Piazza; and will be sadly missed by her extended family and close friends of the family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Otto Hantzmann; parents; sisters, Anneliese Bertram and Margarete Koch; and great-grandchild Forrest Giannini.

Rebecca Stibila (nee Funnell) age 44, passed away suddenly on January 23, 2021. Beloved daughter of James (deceased) and Louise (deceased) and sister to Jay (deceased). Beloved granddaughter to Lawrence and Laverne Neeld (both deceased) and Harry and Nancy Funnell (both deceased). Survived by loving sister, Jamie Heppner and nephew, Jay Harr. Rebecca also leaves behind a loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rebecca had a great love for cats, doing art work, word searches, playing bingo and interacting with the Bridges group.

Thank you to all the staff at Homestead II in Painesville for your constant care and compassion for Rebecca. It is truly appreciated.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 11am at Victory Baptist Church, 8911 Lakeshore Blvd. Mentor.

Douglas Lee Lucas

Douglas (Doug) Lee Lucas, age 61, of Cleveland, Ohio passed away unexpectedly while at home on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

Doug was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on November 5, 1959, the son of Robert L. Lucas and Emma C. Lucas (née Martin).

Doug is survived by his sister Arleta Ann Grenon, his nieces Kristin Grenon and Stacey Liddington, and his close friends Steve and Laurabeth Gresham. Doug was preceded in death by his father and mother, his son Donnie L. Lucas, and his nephew Eric J. Liddington.
Having grown up in Eastlake, Ohio,

Doug attended North High School. He worked at West Side Catholic Center in Cleveland. In his spare time, he loved being with his friends and family, hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles.

Doug will be remembered as a son, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all of those that loved him.
In accordance with Doug's wishes, there will be no service held. Instead, his ashes will be taken to Black Water Falls in West Virginia, where he will be put to rest with his mother, father, and nephew.

A celebration of Doug's life will be held for his family and friends, the date of which will be announced at a later time.

You're my brother. When you think of me while you're up in Heaven, think of how much you meant to me. It's sad that you left without being able to say goodbye, but as you begin to fly, just remember that I love you.

You're my brother. I will always miss you, but I know we will see each other again one day. Until then, may you rest in peace with Dad, Mom, Donnie, and Eric.

Frederick Thomas Jones passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11th, 2021 in Cleveland, OH at the age of 74.

Fred was born on February 20th, 1946 in Youngstown, OH to Thomas Frederick Jones and Margaret Rita (Rowse) Moore. Fred proudly served with the United States National Guard and was a member of the New Apostolic Church for 32 years. 

Fred was always available to lend a helping hand. He was an inspiration of strength and willpower to his family. Finding happiness in the simple pleasures of life, Fred enjoyed many, many long walks. Memories of camping and hunting trips will always be cherished by his loved ones. He shared his love of professional wrestling and fondness for fishing with his children and grandchildren. Kind to all and always with a treat in hand, Fred will be dearly missed by his beloved grand-dogs, Enzo and Frankie. 

He is survived by his son, Frederick Jones Jr.; his daughter Kandy (Harold) Hite; his step-daughters Stephanie (Matthew) Carter and Kristin (Alex) Siegman; his grandsons Matthew, Edward, Torrin, Parker, Nolan and Jace; his granddaughters Crystal and Nicole; and seven great grandchildren; his siblings William Jones, Shirley (James) English, Mary Lou (Donald) Lemmo, and Lawrence Jones and by his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Jones; his mother Rita Moore; his brother Ronald Jones; and his nephew Daniel English. A private memorial  for family was held on Sunday, January 17th, 2021 at 10 o’clock a.m.

Patricia DeVeny, 74, of Eastlake, Ohio, passed away on January 9, 2021. Pat, the cherished daughter of Howard and Marie, graduated from The Andrews School and was a skilled optician until she retired several years ago. Pat loved singing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, but she was especially happy when she was serving others. She was a wonderful cook and a fearless adventurer, as well.

Pat was a proud member of the Maple Mountain Chorus and, more recently, the Greater Cleveland Chorus, and she was a dedicated member of Reformation Lutheran Church for decades. Pat is survived by George DeVeny, her husband of forty-five years; her children Deb (George) Hanna, John (Marcy) DeVeny, and Tricia (Josh) Zeedrich; and her beloved grandchildren Veronica, Sylvia, Sadie, and Ben. Pat was preceded in death by her parents.

A public celebration of Pat’s life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, Pat’s family suggests that memorial donations be made in her name to the Lake County Foster Parent Association or Lake and Geauga County, Ohio Toys for Tots.

Carl F. Kuhns

July 16, 1927 – January 3, 2021

Carl F. Kuhns, July 16, 1927 – January 3, 2021.  Passed peacefully in his sleep.  The last of his generation, he is now with his siblings and parents. Carl was a loving husband to Bonnie for 35 years, a wonderful father to Carla, Robin, Howard, Mark, Lee, Meredith and Charles, to several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a very dear friend to many. Toward the end of WWII, Carl served in the Navy from 1945 to 1948. He was in the Command Information Center (CIC) on destroyer escorts and later was recalled during the Korean Conflict.    He graduated from San Diego City College and holds a life membership in the California Honor Society, attended MIT, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, (IEEE), and a private pilot with single and multi-engine ratings.  He had a diverse career in various technical fields from basic research to technical writing for both industrial and technical clients. He was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for 10 years, celebrating four Eagle Scouts and one Star Scout, and formed an Explorer Post.  He volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic for eight years and the Better Business Bureau for five years. Carl enjoyed music and Broadway musicals.  Another favorite was playing softball at family reunions.  He played tennis and Jai Alai, and for 17 years, played racquetball three times a week. A few of his many hobbies were electronics/amateur radio, photography, woodworking, sailing, winemaking, and cooking. He was kind man who was always joking and laughing.  Carl will be greatly missed, but always in our hearts.

He worked for the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Twinsburg for many years right after high school. He loved boating near Catawba Island in Sandusky, hunting, and enjoyed story telling.
