Carl F. Kuhns, July 16, 1927 – January 3, 2021. Passed peacefully in his sleep. The last of his generation, he is now with his siblings and parents. Carl was a loving husband to Bonnie for 35 years, a wonderful father to Carla, Robin, Howard, Mark, Lee, Meredith and Charles, to several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a very dear friend to many. Toward the end of WWII, Carl served in the Navy from 1945 to 1948. He was in the Command Information Center (CIC) on destroyer escorts and later was recalled during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from San Diego City College and holds a life membership in the California Honor Society, attended MIT, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, (IEEE), and a private pilot with single and multi-engine ratings. He had a diverse career in various technical fields from basic research to technical writing for both industrial and technical clients. He was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for 10 years, celebrating four Eagle Scouts and one Star Scout, and formed an Explorer Post. He volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic for eight years and the Better Business Bureau for five years. Carl enjoyed music and Broadway musicals. Another favorite was playing softball at family reunions. He played tennis and Jai Alai, and for 17 years, played racquetball three times a week. A few of his many hobbies were electronics/amateur radio, photography, woodworking, sailing, winemaking, and cooking. He was kind man who was always joking and laughing. Carl will be greatly missed, but always in our hearts.
