A Remembrance of Loved Ones
Robert F. Ewald
May 20, 1028 - March 4, 2017
Robert Ewald passed away on Saturday, March 4th at the age of 88, at Burton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley L. Ewald. Born May 20, 1928, he was the first of two sons of Frank and Eva Ewald of Newark, Ohio. After graduating from high school, Robert proudly served his country as a Navy Corpsman at the end of WWII and during the Korean War. He spent much of his time in the South Pacific in Ponape, Guam, Pearl Harbor and Saipan. Upon returning to the States, he attended Fairmont State College where he earned his degree in Business Administration and met his wife to be, Shirley. Robert spent his entire career with the General Electric Company in sales, finance and marketing, retiring after 30 years. Robert loved singing and was a member of the Singers' Club of Cleveland. He will always be remembered for helping others during their time of need. Robert is survived by daughters Beth Dillaha, Diana Ewald, Kathy and husband Pat Porter, son Chris Ewald and wife Suzi, grandchildren Ben and wife Meghan, Ryan, Brandon, Dan, Ethan, and great grandchild John. The family would like to thank Burton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, the Geauga County Department on Aging, Meals on Wheels, and especially Grace Hospice for the wonderful services that they provide. We’d also like to thank neighbor Sandra Prahst for the special care and help provided. And lastly, thanks to friend John Breen who spent many hours with Robert at Burton Healthcare over the last few months – your kindness and friendship is deeply appreciated by our family.
Shirley L. Ewald
March 29, 1934 - December 7, 2016
Shirley Ewald (nee Seifrit) passed away December 7, 2016 at Burton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert. She was the first of three daughters of John and Mary Seifrit, born and raised in Fairmont, WVA. After graduating from East Fairmont High School in Fairmont, she attended Fairmont State College where she performed as a majorette, pursued her love of music and earned a degree in music education. It was there that she also met her husband to be, Robert. A devoted wife and dedicated mother who had breakfast on the table every morning for her children, a packed lunch for school and was home for them at the end of every day. She will be remembered for her masterful piano playing and teaching, the meticulous way she decorated the family Christmas trees, and her kindness and caring for all. In later years, she enjoyed waitressing at Cardillos, Town House Restaurant, Chester Diner, and Berkshire Hills Country Club in Chesterland and often reminisced about the friends and acquaintances she met there. Shirley was avid sports fan and enjoyed watching every Cavaliers and Browns game, and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The family would like to thank the Geauga Couny Department on Aging, Meals on Wheels, and especially Grace Hospice for the wonderful services that they provide. We’d also like to thank neighbor Sandra Prahst for the special care and help provided. Shirley is survived by her husband Robert, sisters Linda Willis and Debbie Seifrit, daughters Beth Dillaha, Diana Ewald, Kathy and husband Pat Porter, son Chris Ewald and wife Suzi, grandchildren Ben and wife Meghan, Ryan, Brandon, Dan, Ethan, and great grandchild John.
