David R. Ledenican Sr.

David R. Ledenican Sr. passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, at the young age of 67 in his residence in Mentor, Ohio. Due to a heart issue that could no longer be denied, the spirit in the sky carried him onto his next big adventure, reuniting him with all his loved ones that departed this life before him. Dave, as we all knew him as, was born in Akron, Ohio, on September 25th, 1957, to Patricia and Ervin Ledenican.

Growing up in Timberlake, where his father built his childhood home, brought about countless memorable fun-filled stories of spending unlimited hours on those endless waves of Lake Erie. He spent much of his youth and adult life adding to the memoir of his venturesome journey with his deep love for boating, fishing, and swimming, as this was one of his favorite places to be. 

He lived a very full life, from traveling through the states at a young age, attending many of the old-time concerts, spending time on a yacht for a year, living on Indian reservations in Arizona, and many many more unforgettable stories. But some of his most cherished pastimes, besides on the waters of Lake Erie, were spent riding on his Harleys. He loved the sun on his face, the wind in his hair, and the road at his back. Within his multitude of reminiscing, he had even mentioned that he rode alongside well-known motorcycle clubs, enjoying that open road and adding to his adventurous tales of his crazy and wild past. He had an undying love for music and would listen to it for hours, as rhythm and blues are what coursed through his veins and consumed his soul; wherever he was, you could hear his deep, loudly spoken voice telling you of his shenanigans (probably for the 50th time) over the jamming tunes of that sweet old Rock and Roll. 

As a young restless spirit wandering the lands, he found himself far from home in the hot state of Arizona, and much to his surprise, he met another like him; her name was Marsha Papenhagen, just as restless and spirited from his neighboring state of Michigan. When these two stumbled across one another in such a distant land from their own, a whole new journey began, and they married in January of 1979. Unfortunately, Marsha was taken suddenly in 1993 and his heart was broken. He spent much of his life trying to fill that void, and now that long-awaited reunion has finally happened, and until death do us part brings on a whole new meaning. 

He spent a great deal of his life driving cement trucks and working on cars, and in the early 80s he and his wife Marsha had started an awning business together, of which they ran for years. His creative mind was forever busy; he would constantly be tinkering with any odds and ends he had lying around, coming up with the most interesting of inventions. He was the mastermind behind many thingamabobs and doohickeys, and he could build or fix just about anything you could throw at him. Some would call him a pack rat, but to him they were treasures to be had, and everything had a use. 

Much of his last years were dedicated to his 3 best buds, his birds; Kakers, Hector birdy, and Hannah. He'd spend hours having coffee and banana time with Kakers, talking and jamming to tunes, and no one could scratch Hector birdie's head better than his daddy, and then there was Hannah that would just fly around trying to find her way to freedom to get away from all those crazy men. But his deep, dying love was for his children, Roxanne, David Jr., and Bobby. He loved spending hours teaching them how to work on cars and houses, fishing and hunting, and mostly just hanging out telling the tales of his past.

He thoroughly enjoyed family parties and holidays surrounded by his family and friends, acting like a big goofball. He was a master of sarcastic risqué humor and witty comebacks. He was one who would tell you like it was with nothing whatsoever to hold back, as to some this was his rough edge, but it made him one of the most authentic individuals you would ever meet. He was all the age of 18 in his mind, but his body felt every second of those hard-working years and even harder playing. His love for cooking and parties resulted in endless hours of crazy cookouts. He was a big, burly bear but had a gentle heart and would have given you the shirt off his back and then some. 

Dave is survived by his daughter Roxanne (Ledenican) Boncser, his two sons, David (Heather) Ledenican Jr. and Robert (Jacey) Ledenican, and his grandchildren Alexis and Ben Boncser, Skyler Friedman, Giana and Layla Ledenican, Paisley, Wesley, Banks, and Ila Ledenican. His sister Susan Dick and brother Patrick (PJ) Ledenican and many beloved cousins. And last but not least, his 3 favorite birds: Hector birdy, Hannah, and Kakers. He was preceded in heaven by his mother Patricia (Hruby) Ledenican and father Erv Ledenican, wife Marsha (Papenhagen) Ledenican, stepdaughter Anitra Clark, cousin Rick Ledenican, niece Jennifer Delvillian, grandparents, and many more who greeted him home to the eternal afterlife.

He was a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-duplicated free spirit that nobody could hold down; he was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend and will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his love of music, his hard work, and the kindness he showed to those around him.

Per Dave's wishes, there will be no services or memorials at this time, but we will be holding a celebration of life gathering as he wanted us to enjoy time with family and friends listening to his favorite music, eating all his favorite foods and to share all the loving memories of his brief time here with us. Melissa Pountney

Melissa “Tails” Pountney, 34, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on February 5, 2025. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 7, 1990.  Melissa is survived by her loving family: Her father and step-mother Richard R. Pountney and Margaret Pountney, her mother Mary K. Pountney, her sisters Sandra Hart, Rebecca Pountney, Stephanie DeBarber, Mary Pountney, Anna Pullen and Jessica Pullen, and her brother Stewart Hart.She was a cherished sister, daughter, and friend, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy of love and kindness.  Tails, as she was affectionately known, was a fiercely caring person who would do anything for those she loved. She was the kind of person who would give the shirt off her back to make sure someone else was okay. Melissa worked as a veterinary technician and found joy in caring for animals, though a disability eventually made it difficult for her to continue in her profession. Despite these challenges, Tails never allowed her condition to stop her from supporting her loved ones for as long as she could. Her gentle spirit and immense capacity for love will always be remembered. “The pain may never go away, but the love we feel for Tails is more powerful than that. That’s what we need to hold onto. Tails may be gone, but our love for her will always remain.” Melissa will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but she will always be with us. "The light still shines even though the star is gone".

Patricia J. Lapham

It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Patricia Josephine Lapham (nee White) who left us peacefully on January 11, 2025 at the age of 87.  Born on May 5, 1937, she was the beloved wife of Ronald Wayne Lapham for 62 beautiful years (1957-2019) and a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her life was one of grace, love, and joy, marked by her boundless devotion to her family and her deep and enduring love for her husband.

Pat and Ron shared a love story that seemed straight out of a fairy tale. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with unwavering support, laughter, and a bond that only deepened with time. Together, they built a life founded on mutual respect and shared dreams, creating a family that will carry their legacy forward. Their love was a beacon for all who knew them, and even after Ron’s passing in 2019, Pat’s devotion to him never wavered. In the quiet moments, she would often speak of him with a tenderness that reflected the depth of their connection. Now, as we say goodbye to her, we find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with him in heaven, where their love story continues.

A former nurse, Pat dedicated her life to caring for others, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a talented chef, avid gardener, and an entertainer at heart, with a knack for making everything around her beautiful. Whether it was preparing a meal, tending to her garden, or hosting family gatherings, she put her heart and soul into everything she did. A past small business owner and an expert homemaker, she embodied grace, warmth, and creativity in all things.

Above all, Pat was a woman whose greatest joy came from her family. She was  devoted and is survived by her daughters, Amy (James) Dugan, Katherine Carmigiano and Jennifer Caples; doting grandmother to Rachel (Marc) Frenger, Madeline (Christopher) Dugan-King, Caroline (Adam) Crow, Abigail and Margaret Carmigiano, John Ridgely and Samantha White Caples; great-grandmother to Nolan Dugan-King, Willow Crow and Arthur Frenger; and loving aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her brother, William E. White (1930-2016) and parents Roland Wallace White, (1910-1984) and Alice Elzine Boyce (White), (1910-2003).

Her love, wisdom, and presence were a constant source of comfort and strength, and she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Mom. You were the heart of our family, and your love for Dad will forever be a cherished part of our story. Until we are reunited, you will live on in our hearts.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am. on Saturday February 8th, 2025 at St. James Episcopal Church, 131 N State St., Painesville, followed by interment in the St. James Columbarium.  Prior to the Memorial service family will receive friends from 10:30 am.-11:00 am.  A private celebration  of Pat's life is planned with her family.

Bonnie Lou Vinci

Bonnie Lou Vinci (née Adams), age 66, passed away January 2, 2025, after suffering with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for many years.  She was born April 22, 1958 to Shirley (deceased) and Robert Adams in Cleveland, OH.

In addition to her father, Bonnie is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years (and loving caretaker) Art, son Arthur (Trang) Vinci of Dennison, OH, precious granddaughter Gwenevere Vinci, and brother Dennis Adams of Tampa, FL.  She was a dear sister-in-law, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend to many.

A Celebration of Bonnie’s Life will be at Brennan’s Party Center, 13000 Triskett Road, Cleveland, OH on Sunday, January 12th, from 1:00-4:00, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather in her honor.

Bonnie never complained of her infliction and soldiered on every day of her life. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Carly N. Zehner (Harris)

With profound sadness, we share the passing of Carly N. Zehner (nee Harris), who departed this life on December 5, 2024 at the age of 47. Born on October 11, 1977, in Euclid, Ohio. Carly was a dynamic and passionate leader in the barbering industry. As a skilled service provider, dedicated instructor, and trusted mentor, she left an enduring mark on all who had the honor of learning from or working alongside her.

Carly was the treasured daughter of Ken and Judi Harris (nee Mucci), beloved sister of Natalie Durastante (nee Harris) and brother-in-law Mario A. Durastante II (deceased). She is survived by her devoted companion, David Desalvo, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and students who were deeply touched by her kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit.

Carly's life was enriched by her two cherished cats, Harley and Bear, who brought her comfort and joy. She found great happiness at Holiday Camplands in Andover, Ohio, where she created lasting memories with loved ones, embracing life’s simple pleasures. Carly's selflessness extended to her community, where she volunteered her time and talents to uplift those in need, exemplifying a life of compassion and service.
A true artist in her craft, Carly’s influence in the barbering world will live on through the countless students she inspired and the many lives she touched. Her passion, expertise, and dedication to excellence were unmatched and will continue to serve as a beacon of inspiration for all who knew her.  Carly’s infectious laughter, sense of humor, boundless warmth, and radiant presence will be deeply missed, but the love and legacy she leaves behind will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

A celebration of Carly’s extraordinary life will be announced at a later date, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather in her honor.

Thomas F. Sanker “Tom”

Thomas F. (Tom) Sanker, age 78 of Chesterland, Ohio passed away December 4, 2024. Born March 25, 1946, he grew up in a lively household in Lyndhurst, Ohio. He attended Charles F. Brush High School and then served in the Army where he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Back home Tom worked for the family business, Vacuum Finishing, for a while before heading out West and spending time as a truck driver. He eventually made his way back to Northeast Ohio and settled there for good. Tom ran his own company, AMS Transport, for 8 years until this past May when he first became ill.

Tom was always on the move, often helping friends and family with various projects or repairs. He enjoyed spending time puttering around the house, fixing things in his garage workspace while listening to music, working in the yard, birdwatching, befriending and feeding the outside critters and giving them names. Tom will be remembered for his warm and generous spirit, huge smile, infectious laugh, and being the life of every party. He will be missed by many.

Tom is survived by his wife, best friend and soulmate Sharon Sanker (née Johnson); son Jonathan Adams-Sanker (Danielle) of Beaverton, OR; step-son Shane Coley of Solon, OH, and step-daughter Kristina Coley of St. Louis, MO (Michael Koehler); siblings Mary Jayne Sanker of Duvall, WA, John (Mary) Sanker of Chardon, OH, Peggy Sanker of Sanford, FL, Susan Wittler of Akron, OH, Steven (Jeannette) Sanker of Chardon, OH, and Michael Sanker of Chesterland, OH; mother-in-law Jean Johnson of Chardon, OH; longtime childhood friend Bob Anderson (Chris) of Colorado; many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and so many wonderful friends. He is preceded in death by his father Jack, mother Virgina (née Spencer), and sister-in-law Nancy.

There will be no funeral services as per Tom’s wishes, though a celebration of life gathering will be forthcoming in 2025. In the meantime, raise a glass to Tom!

William Charles Collins

William Charles Collins, known also as Bill, age 63, of Grand River, died on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.  He was surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born April 4, 1961, in Cleveland. Marian and Wilbur Collins cherished Bill, as their beloved son. He loved his family, friends, hunting, fishing, playing the drums , and all Cleveland sports.  Bill was ever dedicated to his occupation of autobody painting.

Bill's family and friends will remember him as a person who was determined, witty, and outgoing. He valued hard work and kindness to the utmost. None ever knew him who did not revere him for his saintly unselfishness. Bill was a loving, tender, and happy husband to his wife, Cheryl “Cheri” Collins , who preceded him in death in 2019.   A caring father to his children, Dennis and Corey, and a cherished grandfather to Taylor, Colton, and Ivy.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Collins. He is survived by his mother, Marian . As well as his siblings, Gerald “Ed” , Wesley , Sidney “Sid” Collins , and Candace “Candy” Lucas ; nephews Jason, Christopher, Jared, and Justin ; nieces Sharon, Elizabeth and Kaitlynn .

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life for Bill at Lake Erie Bluffs Shelter, 3301 Lane Rd. Perry Twp., on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Friends are invited to arrive at 2 p.m.

Barbara Lynn Caraffi

Barbara Lynn Caraffi (née Bambic) Sunrise~ January 13, 1952   Sunset~ September 23, 2024. Barbara was Blessed with 72 yrs. of life on this earth, she was a hard worker while enduring through many trials out of her control. She leaves behind the love of her life Craig Rupar, Loving Sisters: Gail Smilanich, Sharon Bralley (Mark) and her niece Rachel Burnette & nephews JJ Burnette  and Josh Smilanich and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Phyllis Bambic (née Johnson), her sister Carol Burnette, nephew Mark (Buck) Burnette and dear brother in law Dan Smilanich. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

There will be no services per Barbara’s request.

Michael L. Hayden

Michael “Mike” L. Hayden, 71, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on August 28, 2024. He was born in Flint, Michigan on April 18, 1953, the son of Norman and Aletha Hayden and the third of four children. He graduated from Lapeer West High School in 1971 and the following year he married the love of his life, Barbara. Mike’s two children, Lee and Brandy, were born soon after. Mike worked at General Motors-Chevrolet Truck and Bus in Flint, Michigan for thirty-four years where he met many life-long friends. After retirement, he served others at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Flint Michigan. In 2013, he and Barbara relocated to a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio to provide childcare for two of their grandchildren. There they attended Shoreline Church where he enjoyed more friendships.

Mike was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His wife, Barbara, was truly his “other half” and his closest confidant. He was a devoted and supportive father and grandfather who diligently attended games, concerts and all other activities involving his children and grandchildren. Mike’s sisters were not only his family, but also his entrusted friends. Mike enjoyed many sporting activities including hunting, fishing, basketball, softball and volleyball. All who knew him were aware of his loyalty to the University of Michigan Wolverines and thoroughly enjoyed sparring with Ohio State fans. However, it was not the activities or competition that he found most engaging, but rather the time spent investing in friendships and family bonds.

Mike’s perseverance and positive personality was an inspiration to those around him despite his struggle with heart disease for many years. He smiled at everyone and chose to share his faith by helping to care for others, and expressing joy, gratitude and humor.  Even in his last days, he was able to bring smiles to his caregivers at the Cleveland Clinic who he much appreciated.

Mike is survived by, and will forever remain in the hearts of, his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Barbara C. Hayden, children Lee (Lindsey) Hayden and Brandy (Jonathon) Lorek, grandchildren Chase Hayden, Marlee Cochran, Colt Hayden, Grant Lorek and Anneliese Lorek, sisters Karin (James) Krepps, Michele “Mickey” (Michael) Shigley, Laurie Hayden and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1084 North Irish Road, Davison, with refreshments to follow.  The family will receive visitors from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

In remembrance of Michael Hayden’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Grace Presbyterian Church or “The Chosen” at comeandseefoundation.org.

Mary Louise Baumgardner (nee Edmisten)

Mary Louise Baumgardner (nee Edmisten) went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, August 29, 2024 in the comfort of the home she shared with her son, John, in Euclid, Ohio.

Mary was born on May 28, 1934 in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Boone, North Carolina. She graduated in 1952 from Appalachian High School where she was an accomplished and star basketball player.

In 1955, she married Johnny Baumgardner and together they set off for Cleveland, Ohio in search of prosperity and opportunity. It was in the Cleveland metropolitan area where the family resided for the remainder of Mary's lifetime.

Some of her favorite things were admiring the deer and the "Blue Birds" outside of her home, some songs like “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers and “Dancing Queen” by ABBA

Mary was an active member at both the Willoughby United Methodist Church in Willoughby and at Franklin Circle Christian Church in Cleveland, where she was beloved by many friends at both churches.

In 2017, Mary was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. It was soon afterwards that her son John took over custodial care of her as the disease eventually progressed which exacted a terrible toll upon her.

Mary's final years were filled with as much happiness as possible and she was loved beyond measure.

Mary is survived by her daughter Sharon Rolland of Willoughby, Ohio, her son John of Euclid, Ohio, her son Jerry, of Willoughby, Ohio. Her sisters Anne Barba of Roanoke, VA and Betty Shoemake, Joyce Proffitt and Rebecca Younce of Boone, NC.

In November of 1986, Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Johnny Baumgardner. She was also preceded in death by her two daughters, Debra Horne in 2020 and Sandra L. Knight in 2022. And her brothers Bobby Edmisten, AV Edmisten and Tommy Edmisten, all of Boone, NC.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 7 , 2024 between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the Willoughby United Methodist Church, 15 E. Spaulding Street in Willoughby, Ohio. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 pm. The family would like to thank everyone for joining them in sharing the beautiful memories of Mary.

Donald Ray Selman

Donald Ray Selman age 82, passed away on August 5, 2024, after a long illness with Alzheimer and Cancer. Loving husband to Dorothy for 61 years. Loving father to Donald Jr. (deceased) Sheila of Ravenna, and Duane (deceased). Proud and loving Grand Paw to Izabella. Loving companion to Pixie. They went on many walks around the neighborhood, Meeting and talking to anyone outside. Don was an avid mechanic, working on family and friends' cars. He had a 20 year love affair with restoring a 1957 Chevy that we named Christine. It looked like it just rolled off the showroom floor when he was finished. We went to a lot of car shows, and won many trophies. In his younger days he loved hunting, fishing, and archery. Always a serious competitor in all his hobbies. Much love and appreciation to Cleveland Clinic Hospice for all their great care. Especially nurse Raven and aide Unique. He will forever be loved and missed.

No Services will be held at this time. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Rebekah Elizabeth Everett (Betuh-Lou)

Rebekah Everett, Age 31, went to be with the Lord Jesus unexpectedly. She was a mom, daughter, sister, Auntie Betuh & friend to many. Loving daughter to Donald Everett & Evelyn Rowan (home with Jesus). She leaves behind 4 beautiful children; Caleb, Elijah, Lilliana and Greyson who she loved with all her heart and soul.  As well as, siblings; Phillip, James (Mindy), Angela, Rachel, Hope and Faith. Uncle Mark (Deborah), Aunt Traci (Rick), many cousins and many adoring nieces and nephews. Granddaughter of Captain Herbert H.H. Kothe and Janice Kothe. Closest friend to Amanda T. Preceded in death by her Grandmama, Nona-lou, Mother (Evelyn), Great uncles Elliot and Joseph, as well as her best friend Ryan K. She was a bright, silly, caring, inquisitive, young woman, who will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. We know by God’s grace, through the Lord Jesus, that our Betuh-lou, is at peace and in His arms.

John R. Murphy

John Richard Murphy age 60 of Painesville, Twp., OH. Beloved son of John R. Sr. and Marilyn (nee Gibson, deceased); father of Brandon (Michelle) and Derek (Felicia); grandfather of Juliana, Evan, Ava, Laila, and Leonardo; brother of Randy and Karen Klause (deceased)

John was a 1982 graduate of Fairport Harding High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He had a passion for music and cars. John also had a very deep love for animals. He is leaving behind his best friend Petey, who he took for walks daily.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

Michael Paul Predina

Michael Paul Predina, age 79, passed away on June 24, 2024. Loving and loved son of the late Paul and Margaret (Ruszka) Predina. Mike was the husband of the late Judith Predina and the loving father of Michael (Antonia) and Keith Predina, as well as the beloved grandfather of Nicole, Gregory and Ella Predina.

Michael graduated from Benedictine High School in 1963 and remained in contact with several of his classmates until his passing. After graduating he worked as a machinist and then as a representative selling and repairing presses and large machinery. Mike was an avid member of the Rock and Roll Capital Street Machines, a car club in Solon, Ohio. He attended many car shows in his 1957 Chevy Nomad and had a passion for automobiles that lasted throughout his whole life.

He was a devoted grandfather and enjoyed being at his grandchildren’s countless events. He cheered on both granddaughters at their softball games and was always seen in the stands of his grandson’s football games. You could always count on him to root loudly for his grandchildren’s teams— win or lose, rain or shine. He loved going to family gatherings and talking to his aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at Forest Hall in Penitentiary Glen on August 18th for immediate family. Donations can be sent in lieu of flowers to Rock and Roll Capital Street Machines at 6200 Enterprise Parkway, Solon, Ohio 44139.

Amy Jean Kmitt

Amy Jean Kmitt (née Hemphill), 57, of Willowick, Ohio, passed away on July 3, 2024 after a long hard-fought battle with metastatic cancer. Born on April 7, 1967, in Painesville, Ohio, Amy dedicated her life to caring for others, both through her career and personal life.

Amy graduated from Painesville Riverside High School and pursued further education at Bryant and Stratton College of Nursing. Her professional journey as an Emergency Medical Technician and Registered Nurse showcased her unwavering commitment to helping those in need and her hard work and dedication. Amy was so proud to become a registered nurse.

Amy’s zest for life was evident in her hobbies, which included laying in the sun on the beach, sitting by the pool and tanning, cheering on or yelling at the Cleveland Indians, and loving all the "big dogs" and "crazy puppies.” Above all, she cherished loving her family and her many friends she made throughout the years, who stood as the cornerstone of her joy and purpose.

She is survived by her daughter, Jordan (Michael) Weeks; son, Tyler (Brianna) Kmitt; grandchildren, Jacob Fuller, Jillian Fuller, Alexis Weeks, and Elizabeth Weeks; parents, Gail and Charles Hemphill; sister, Patti (Dennis) Oblinger; nieces, Sarah and Emily Oblinger; and several loved cousins near and far. Amy was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and her beloved dog, Chloe.

Family will be holding a service in Amy’s remembrance on Friday July 12th, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Painesville Church of the Brethren 10410 Buckeye Road Painesville, Ohio 44077. The family requests casual attire and should be beach, Cleveland Indians, or purple themed. 

The family has expressed that contributions in Amy’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, the University Hospitals Seidman Center, or the Ronald McDonald House.

Steve Sajner

Steve Sajner, 71, a life-long resident of Painesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a decade of fighting and conquering AML and a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Friends and family were grateful to be by his side to spend his last days together as his final fight concluded. Steve was born in 1952 in Painesville to Steve and Julia (Nemeth) Sajner. He was a 1971 graduate of Riverside High School in Painesville Township and married his high school sweetheart Leila Lampinen in 1973. They were happily married for 50 years and would have celebrated their 51st anniversary together this summer.

Steve, like his father before him, was the owner/operator of Lake County Door in Painesville until the mid-nineties when he decided to sell the business and pursue other interests. Until his AML diagnosis in 2014 and successful stem-cell transplant, thanks to his “perfect match” and dear sister Carole in 2015, Steve had been an avid cross-country and downhill skier. He loved to travel, especially across the country to visit National Parks. He loved spending time with his family and friends, woodworking, canoeing, tending to the vegetable garden, and rebuilding classic cars. He took great pride in rebuilding a 1930 Ford Model A side-by-side with his father before his father’s passing in 1990 and continued to work on his 1969 Camaro until it became too difficult for him. He will be watching over his son-in-law and grandson as they take over where he had stopped.

Steve is survived by his wife Leila (Lampinen); daughters, Lynette (Jon) Ruple of Munson and Suzette (Shane) Horner of Concord; grandchildren, Jonathon (Jack) and William Henry (Hank) Ruple, and Steven, Smith, and Sarah Grace Horner. He is also survived by his sisters Carole (Doug, deceased) Hunt, Judy (Vince) Roessner, and Sandie Sajner and brother-in-law Mauri Lampinen; along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Sajner (1990), mother Julia Sajner (1997), and brother-in-law Doug Hunt (2021).

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to hug someone dear to you and give thanks for those in your life. The family is so grateful for everyone that has been rooting for Steve over the years with prayers and those that were with him at the very end. Should you wish to make a donation in his memory, please consider the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; without their medical research, he would not have been a candidate for the transplant that provided him so many extra years with his family and friends.

Sean Luberger

Sean Luberger, beloved father to Kyler Thomas, brother, uncle and friend to many; has passed away. 

The family will host a celebration of life memorial and encourage guests to come prepared to share stories about Sean. Services to be held on June 29th, in the Schaefer room at Willoughby Hills Community Center 35400 Chardon Rd. Willoughby Hills, Ohio 44094 from noon to 4pm.

Barry Stanley Oltmanns

Barry Stanley Oltmanns, age 89, of Painesville Township, Ohio, passed away on May 23, 2024. He was born on February 24, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Barry will always be remembered as a devoted husband to Janet (Novakovic), a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. In his early years, Barry enjoyed camping vacations, spending time with his family, woodworking, and helping to build a thriving printing business. He proudly served in the US Navy in the late 1950s and had a deep love for his country.  Barry is Preceded in death by his loving daughter, Beth Katz.

Barry Stanley Oltmanns will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

A Memorial Service will be held on June 3, 2024, with a gathering at 9:30 am in the main Mausoleum, followed by the Service at 10:00 am at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, located at 11521 Chillicothe Road (Ohio State Route 306), Chesterland, Ohio 44026.

Carol A. Mazzola

Carol Mazzola (nee Masur) of Euclid Ohio. Beloved wife of the late Fred. Loving mother of Joe Glicken (Jacqueline), Julie Oldorf (deceased) (Rick), Larry Glicken (Debbie, deceased)(Beth), John Glicken (Vicki), Mitch Glicken (deceased) (Sandy), Marilyn Glawe (Stephan), Sandi Dennis, and Steven Mazzola (deceased) (Robin). Carol was the loving grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Her warm and giving heart will be greatly missed.

Mary Zupan

Mary Zupan, nee Greisl, 80, passed away on May 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary, nicknamed "Meece" in high school, was known for her quiet , sweet nature and strong faith. Her long career at Jergens, Inc. in Cleveland, OH, was followed by years of service with a woman's faith group and a deep devotion to her bible study friends. Her family was her greatest joy and she chesged every moment spent with them.

Mary is survived by her children Thomas Smith, Patricia (Dean) Putzbach, step-son Craig Zupan, beloved grandson Joshua Smith, granddaughter Jessica (Daniel) Tutulo, two great grandchildren, and her loving and devoted sister Carol (David) Woellert.

A funeral mass is being held at St. John Vianney Church located at 7575 Bellflower Rd in Mentor, OH 44060 at 9:30 AM on Friday, May 17, 2024.  The service will be streamed live at https://sjvmentor.org/ and followed by interment at All Soul's Cemetery in Chardon, OH.  Donations may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve or the American Cancer Society.
