JEFFREY A. MESSNER
March 26, 1971 - June 9, 2016
Jeffrey Alan Messner age 45 passed away suddenly on June 9, 2016. Beloved son of Ron and Judi Messner of Willoughby; Dear father of Rachael Messner of Concord; Loving brother of Jennifer (Joe) Kostrab of Willoughby; Dear Nephew and cousin of many. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Dr. John and Ann Hedgepeth, and Bill and Blanche Messner. Jeff was an avid reader. He enjoyed music and all sports. He was a gifted artist, and was degreed in CAD/CAM. In 2000 Jeff gave the gift of life to his beloved sister by donating one of his kidneys to her, allowing her to live a healthy, productive life without the need of dialysis. A private service will be held at a later date. Please remember Jeff in your prayers. LEO PATRICK NELSON
May 16, 1947 - June 5, 2016
Leo P. Nelson "Papa Leo", age 69, of Painesville passed away peacefully at Homestead II Sunday, June 5, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born May 16, 1947 in Brainerd, MN, the first son of the late Hilding "Bill" and Rita Nelson. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1965 and joined the Marine Corps on February 16, 1966 remaining state side in bulk fuels until he was Honorably Discharged on February 15, 1968. Leo then worked his way into the Cleveland area settling in Painesville and worked at Trio Prescioneering as a machinist for 37 years before retiring in 2012. Papa enjoyed his family farm, his grandchildren, gardening, cooking, shooting pool, wood working, fishing, horse pulls, auctions, and being with his family. He is greatly missed by Joyce, his wife of 23 years; children, Michael (Rachele) Burkett, Matthew (Arlene) Burkett, and Melissa (Dean) West; 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren; siblings, Iris (Steve) Shively, William (Sue) Nelson, Ed (Gayle) Nelson, Rosanne (Bruce) Caughey, Ron (Barb) Nelson, Gloria (Rick Williams) Nelson; many nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Hilding "Bill" and Rita Nelson and brother, Duane (Mary) Nelson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 25, 2016 from 2pm until 4pm @ Mr. Lee's 3564 S. Ridge Road Perry, Oh. 44081. Papa's journey home to Minnesota will be completed in July, 2016.

ORA MUZIK
June 28, 1919 - June 3, 2016
Ora (Unzicker) Muzik was born June 28, 1919 in Niles P.O., Oklahoma to Lillie and Nicholas Unzicker. She was the third of five daughters with one younger brother. She lived in Arkansas, New York City, New Jersey, and Perry, Ohio where she met her husband in 1942. She married John Muzik Jr. on June 16, 1946 and lived in Painesville Township ever since. They had two sons, Michael William (Deborah Johnson) and Edward Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Michael, her sisters: Bertha, Irene, Mamie, Margaret, and her brother Willie. She was an active member in her church and garden club, with a particular talent with roses.
Memorial services will be held June 26, 2016 at the Madison Seventh Day Adventist Church on the corner of Bates Rd. and South Ridge Rd. (RT 84) at 2:00 p.m.

GEORGE B. MAXON
November 3, 1927 - May 29, 2016
George B. Maxon, 88, of Concord Township passed away on May 29, 2016. He was born on November 3, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio. George was a retired auto body teacher for the Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools. George was also a volunteer firefighter with the Concord Township Fire Department, and a charter member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Painesville Township. George proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Blackfin (SS-322). George enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Helen (Laukkonen) Maxon, parents Etta May and Burwell Maxon, sister Mary Shimp, and brother-in-law Harold Shimp. George is survived by his children Barbara Bretzman, Kathy Maxon, Bill (Ruth) Maxon, and Becky (Philip) Pesosky; grandchildren Brian Meyer, George Hudson, Mary Bretzman, Madeline and William Maxon, Kristen (Daniel) Barbera, and Andrew Pesosky, and three great-grandchildren.

Robert T. HENRY SMYLIE

Henry “Hank” Smylie, long time Willoughby resident, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2016 with his family by his side. He was 85 years old. Henry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Paulette (nee Mekeel), children Suellen (Eric), Wendy (Matt), Bruce (Sandy), Brian (Patti), Barbara (Jeff), Mark (Linda), 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Irving and Pearl Smylie, grandson Ryan Pietravoia, brothers Sanford, Leon, Jerome, Bernard, William, and sister Eleanor Vicstein. Henry was born in Cleveland OH on December 6, 1930 and enjoyed sharing many stories of his days growing up in the city where he learned the value of hard work, found his love for the sport of boxing and the love of his life, Paulette. He proudly served his country with the US Army in Korea during the Korean War. Henry was an avid lover of roses, bent lawns, big dogs, boxing and more than anything, his family. After his family, Henry’s pride and joy were his rose bushes that at one time numbered more than 100 in his yard, along with his plush bent lawn. He loved all animals but especially loved his Rottweilers Bronc, Rigzz and Vito. Henry spent countless hours training young men in the art of boxing at both the amateur and professional level. Many of his former “fighters” maintained a lasting relationship with him, checking up on him until his last days and helping in anyway they could, a true testament to the influence he had. Henry owned and operated Smylie TV Sales and Service, for 35 years in Mentor OH. In keeping with the wishes of Henry there will be no funeral services. Isabel Adele Lee (nee Mikulskas)
Isabel passed from this life to the next after a brief illness and hospital stay. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Charles Lee, 16 years earlier. Also proceeding her in death where her brothers Joseph Sherry, John Sherry, and sister Helen Sherry. She is survived by her longtime friend Bill Crotser, and many Nieces and nephews. Isabel was an active and energetic person as well as private and quiet. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends at every opportunity as well as alone time. Isabel was a long time member of the Jehovah Witness who consistently participated in her church’s bible studies until the week of her death. She was always interested in knowing more about God and his plans for her.
There will be a private graveside service at a future date.
Isabel consistently donated to the Lake County Humane society 7564-E Tyler Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060 Phone:(440) 951-6122. Her family would suggest donations to that organization in her name.

Gregory F. Novince Sr., age 58 resident of Willoughby for 21 years, passed away April, 12, 2016 in Cleveland. He was born Jan. 8, 1958 in Cleveland. Gregory was a Brick layer for 25 years and was a member of Local #5. He is survived by his son, Greg (Shannon); siblings, John, Chuck, Missy Bildstein, Carol Camloh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rosemary Novince.

Vickie was a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She was a devoted mother to son Cody M. McKinney (Fiancé Danielle Golias); she is survived by her step father Greg Gurtler, siblings Karin (Ken) Leverenz, Debi (John) DeNicola, Bill Maxwell, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Marilyn Joyce Gurtler (Kalchert), father Cleveland Maxwell; and brothers Jim Maxwell, and Tom (Max) Maxwell.

John F. Long age 73, passed away on April 2, 2016 in peace, after a long battle with COPD and Cancer. He was born in Saxton, PA on January 10, 1943. John worked at Phoenix Gear in Arizona before retiring. He brought his family to Ohio in 2004, so his wife could care for her mother and step father (Frank and Margaret Kolk). He is survived by his wife of 35 years Paulda; his children Nicholas, Jason and Theresa Ubinski; his grandson Nicky Jr. “his little buddy”, 6 granddaughters and 2 grandsons; his sisters Alice Lemin, Shirley Fleck, Beverly Fleck, and Donna Mellot; Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Russell and Irene Long; Brothers: Bob, Jim and Glennie.

CARLOS LONG
January 27, 1952 - February 27, 2016
Carlos Long was born on January 27, 1952. He was born to the late Gladys (Fowler) Long, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Alfonso Long of Hazard, Kentucky. He was the fourth born of twelve children. While growing up Carlos and the family attended Southern Baptist Church under Pastro Robert Hill's leadership.
Carlos was a person that truly enjoyed life. He loved reading. If you gave him a book, he would have it read in three days, and then want to tell you about it. He loved old music. Chuck Berry, O-Jays, and The Spinners were some of his favorites. He also loved watching old westerns and cartoons. Most importantly, Carlos loved his family.
He was always there to help out when he could and he was extremely protective of his sisters. He was always ready to defend them by saying "I got some big hammers for them" that is for anyone that dared to bother his sisters. Carlos was extremely fond of Mazine. He often referred to her as his twin. She loved Carlos, she would always speak on his behalf.
Carlos was proceeded in death by his mother and father, Gladys and Alfonso Long. His brother, Billy Ray Long, and his niece Le-Shandra Long.
He leaves to morn for him his daughter, Nedra Smith and two grandchildren, William and Michael Smith.
He leaves four brothers: Will Gus, Robert, Richard and Samuel Long; six sisters: Christine, Maxine (Melvin) Templeton, Carline (Mark) Rice, Henrietta Long, Jewell (Abdullah) Mubarak, and Ellen Long; and a host of neices and nephews.
