Kathleen "Kathy" Newton age 91, of Mentor. Passed away peacefully on February 15, 2020 at Hospice of the Western Reserve. Only child of the late Watson P. Newton and Eda V. Newton (nee Hoffman).
Dear friend of Pat Perme, William and Marcia Fuchs, Josh, Krista, Landon, Mallory and Noah Lear, and Goddaughter Cheryl Lapuh. A graduate of Euclid High School in 1946, and Baldwin Wallace College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts. Kathy also graduated from Case Western Reserve with a Masters in counseling. She taught at Kirtland High School, and North High School where she retired in 1984. Kathy began her golf start at Baldwin Wallace, and played many years at Manakiki Country Club and Acacia Country Club, where she won numerous club championships.
In the summers she played nationally in tournaments. One of her greatest achievements was having 7 holes in one. In 1961 she was runner up in the Women's Ohio State Golf Association, and W.O.S.G.A. winner in 1963. Kathy is in the Euclid High School Hall of fame, Baldwin Wallace Hall of Fame, as well as the Northern Ohio Golf Association Hall of Fame. She was a seven time winner of the Cleveland Women's Golf Association, once held the amateur record at Shaker Height Country Club with a score of 71, and was awarded the Betty Kirby Peppard Award in 2007 from the W.O.S.G.A.
A Memorial Service will be held 11A.M. Saturday March 14, 2020 at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church , 435 Som Center Road, Mayfield Village, OH 44143. A Private Burial will be held at a later date.
