Kathleen "Kathy" June Dorn
Obituary – Springfield, Ashtabula, Cleveland OH
Kathleen (Kathy) June Dorn – Age 74, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away in her Ashtabula, OH home Monday, February 3, 2020. She was born in Cleveland Heights but lived most of her life in Springfield and Ashtabula. Kathy will be remembered most as a caring mother, loving grandmother and empathetic friend and neighbor. Others will remember her as an exceptional second grade teacher at Snowhill Elementary in Springfield Ohio, a hospital ward secretary at Mercy Hospital, and volunteer rehabilitating animals and birds in her home. The most well-known animals she cared for are the crow who followed her to work and “Chuck” the groundhog, who made special television appearances this time of the year in the late ‘80s from his post-rehabilitation home at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Kathy Dorn is preceded in death by her daughter. She is survived by her 2 sons, grandchildren, brother and sister, nieces and nephews and their families. She attended Shaw High School in East Cleveland and Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH. Kathy enjoyed playing the flute and we’ll remember our love for her whenever we see her precious butterflies.
No viewing was held. A celebration of her life will be announced to family and friends at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Kathy would have requested that friends care for animals, like her, by donating to the animal shelter nearest you.
