Gerald D. Hobson (Jerry), 83, of Painesville passed away May 23, 2020, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Twp., Ohio, after a fierce, determined battle with Covid-19. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Vidmar), and sons Charles and David (Astrid), of Cleveland; daughter Valerie Leonard of Painesville, and eight grandchildren: David, Aaron, Rachel, Leah, Jonathan, and Joshua Hobson, and Victoria and Danielle Leonard; and his brother, Bill (Pat) Hobson of The Villages, Florida.

He was born March 11, 1937, in Cleveland to George and Jean Hobson. He and his brother were raised by his mother. He was a graduate of Mayfield High School and attended John Carroll University. On February 16, 1960, he married his wife, Virginia, and they happily celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in the DMZ on the Imjin River in 1960-62. His ingenuity as an Army mechanic earned him private barracks and other privileges during his service. Primarily, he worked in sales and marketing for much of his life. Most recently, he was employed as a full-time security guard for Securitas. He was a tireless and dependable worker, and enjoyed the independence and activity that came with remaining employed.

He was a Christian with a great love for others and for God, and had many insights about the nature of his faith. His favorite hobby was genealogy, but he also enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar, classic films, great conversation, a good meal, and an occasional glass of whiskey. He loved the music of Beethoven and Mozart, and also Johnny Cash and Chet Atkins. His sense of humor and work ethic are legendary, and endure in his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Blessing Cremation Center, Mentor. Services may be held by the family at a future time.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” -2 Timothy 4:7-8.
