Susan “Sue” Philips

Susan “Sue” Philips, 76, of Madison, Ohio, passed away on February 17, 2026. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Sue was the daughter of Francis Evelyn McCoy-Owensby and Edgar James Owensby.

Sue was known for her straight-to-the-point personality and her fierce devotion to her family. She was a feisty, determined woman who believed in getting the job done and would do anything for the people she loved. She lived life with strength and independence — even enjoying riding her motorcycle. A proud and honest worker, Sue retired from Laketran after years of dedicated service.

Above all, Sue was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love shaped generations. She is survived by her children: Angela Pierce, Theresa Philips, Charles Philips, and Steven Philips.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Shauntaye, Justin, Krystle, Dezaray, Monica, Naomi, Mason, and Ariana-Marie. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Aralynn, Carter, Nicholas, and Jay Jay.

Sue is also remembered by the fathers of her children, William Doak and Charles Philips Jr. and his wife Eva; her daughters-in-law, Chasity Dishman, Jenny Philips, and Christine Philips; her sons-in-law, Rusty Pierce and Jeff Wright; her sister June; her niece Wanda; and her adored cousins Shelly and Kendall Stockum, Randy and Greg Stockum.

She shared a special bond with her best friend and caretaker, Kaye Queen. She was preceded in death by her grandchild Korey and her cousin Anna Jean. Sue will be remembered as an honest, hardworking, and fiercely devoted mother — a woman whose strength, loyalty, and love for her family defined her life.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Though she has left this earthly life, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace in God’s presence. Her strength, love, and spirit live on through the family she cherished so deeply.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
