John Joseph Fornadel
John Joseph Fornadel, age 80, of Willowick, Ohio passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of family on February 6, 2024. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was one of three children of the late John, Sr., and Helen (West) Fornadel. John was a graduate of Collinwood High School in Cleveland, class of 1961, after which he attended Kent State University. He married his wife, Carol, in 1964 with whom he enjoyed 59 years of marriage.
John worked as a mechanical engineer. He was athletic in his younger years and was on the high school basketball team and later enjoyed playing golf and softball. He was also very involved as a volunteer with the Willowick and Euclid YMCA swim teams. He always put family first, and especially enjoyed doing things with his grandson. John loved numbers and games of strategy including cards, chess, and backgammon and enjoyed his trips with his wife to Las Vegas.
John is survived by his wife, Carol (Kovalsky); children Julie (Dan) Baker of Mentor, OH, and Brian Fornadel (Scott Monnin) of Columbus, OH; grandson Richard Baker; brother Martin (Karen) Fornadel of Mentor, OH; as well as many more extended family members and friends; he was preceded in death by his sister Reta Jean Fornadel.
A funeral mass will be held on May 18, 2024 at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 32114 Vine St., Willowick, Ohio from 12-1 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 2 p.m. at All Aboard bar at 8455 Station St., Mentor, Ohio. The family express thanks to Miracle City Hospice for their care of John.
